Side A: Vina
Side B: Mkondo Wa Moto
CAT NO. OGR823

A collaboration between Original Gravity’s Neil Anderson and Max Jere of The Umoza Music Project, all the way from Senga Bay on Lake Malawi, we call it “Mafumu” which is Chichewa for “Kings”.

Chichewa is the main language of Malawi and this is the language you hear on the A-side of this release with Max urging us to “Vina” which translates literally to “Dance!”. With Max on vocals and Neil on everything else (except the horns), we think the track has an energy that builds and builds, then drops, then builds again! With all the elements of classic Afro-Funk in place - driving bass & drums, percussion, horns, early synth sounds and a talking drum!

On the flip, Neil takes over and plays all of the instruments (except the flute) on “Mkondo Wa Moto” (Spear of Fire) for an up-tempo burner in the Afro/Latin/Funk style with the talking drum featured heavily, along with a guitar part that pays homage to Nile Rogers along the way!

We hope you like it! There’s definitely “something in the air” with African Funk at the moment!
